Kanye West, who recently changed his legal name to Ye, will not be performing at the Coachella music festival this year, according to reports from Variety and Billboard.
Ye was set to headline the festival, which begins on April 15. The reports did not give a reason for the artist canceling his show.
In recent months, Ye has been in the news for several reasons. He shared grievances on social media about co-parenting issues he has faced with his former wife, Kim Kardashian. He was also briefly suspended from Instagram for a racial insult aimed at “Daily Show” host Trevor Noah.
Ye was banned from performing at this year’s Grammy Awards ceremony, which was held Sunday night, because of his recent “concerning online behavior.” Ye’s album, “Donda,” was nominated for album of the year, though it failed to win.
Coachella is one of the country’s most prominent annual music events. This year’s festival has been especially anticipated since Coachella canceled its 2020 and 2021 editions because of the pandemic.
Other artists scheduled to appear at Coachella include Harry Styles, Billie Eilish, Doja Cat and Megan Thee Stallion.
Representatives from Coachella and Def Jam Recordings, Ye’s label, didn’t immediately respond to a MarketWatch request for comment.
